I’m Osman Başkaya. I develop AI products and lead engineering teams.

I currently work at Fieldguide as a Senior Engineering Manager, where I lead the AI Platform team. My team builds core AI primitives and reusable platform capabilities that enable product teams to deliver AI-powered experiences, helping auditors work more effectively and efficiently.
I previously led Lumiro AI, an AI tour guide application offering interactive audio tours and personalized, real-time experiences. The product helped travelers explore destinations at their own pace with experiences tailored to their interests and preferences.

Before Lumiro, I led a team at Twilio to build a centralized Machine Learning platform and oversaw the leading Twilio Autopilot. Prior to that, I spent three years as a Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Twilio.

Earlier in my career, I worked as a Research Engineer at Totient and Seven Bridges Genomics in Boston, USA, and in a Research lab at Huawei Technologies in Istanbul as a research engineer. I also worked for a YC-backed company in Turkey.

I have more than a decade of experience in Natural Language Processing and Machine learning, which helped me publish my research in venues like EACL, the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, and SemEval.

I was born in İzmir, a city on the West Coast of Turkey, and later moved to Istanbul for college. I earned degrees in Computer Engineering and Mathematics from Bahçeşehir University. I then joined the Artificial Intelligence Lab at Koç University, where I focused on Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, earning a Master's degree. After completing it, I pursued a career in industry, gaining experience at startups and large companies.

In 2016, I moved to the United States, first to Boston and then to the Bay Area. Now, I live in San Francisco.

I am a big tennis fan, and I love to play and go to tournaments to watch the sport. Recently, I got my first motorcycle -- a KTM RC 390. I enjoy riding it around the city.
